Nomatia
Nomatia is a neologism derived from `nomads` (wandering tribe) and ´lomatia` (one of the oldest living plant species on earth, native to Tasmania). In a figurative sense, it can be translated as to [the eternally wandering plant] - a symbol of movement, constancy and change at the same time.
The art project Nomatia marks the second collaboration between sound artist Fabian Laute and movement artist Tobias Piero Dohm. At its core lies an exploration of the tension between stillness and unrest - somewhere between celestial bodies and the earth on which we stand.
Using techniques from contemporary juggling, object manipulation, and Butoh dance, the piece unfolds as a fluid, atmospheric interpretation of these themes,, accompanied by the sound of a modular synthesiser.
The project was released as a short film, filmed by Iris Herwig during a rehearsal at the Zugvøgel Festival in the Belgian Eifel.
